Hoo and the Missing Piece

There once lived a wee small owl who went by the name of Hoo. He was given his name by a young princess who imagined him. She spoke to her owl everyday about everything. Hoo was allowed to play in her room and play with her toys. Not a permission given to just anybody. Hoo knew that too and felt all warm inside knowing that he was loved. When the young princess used to go to places that were a little frightening for her, she would clam up and feel alone. Since Hoo has come along those feelings are gone and new feelings of trust and comfort can be felt by her.
The young princess also had a Grammy. They spent a lot of time together and loved making each other laugh. Once in a while while they were chatting over tea and crumpets, Hoo would boldly interrupt. The princess would quickly scold him and get back to her tea. (Pinkies out of course)
Moments later and after tea, the young princess and her Grammy could be spotted in the yard chasing butterflies. Right in the middle of an excursion, Hoo would make his presence known by flying so close to them, he almost got tangled in their hair! (At least that is what I was told)
One day, in particular, the princess had a doctor appointment in the town next to her Grammy's.
Guess who also needed to see the doc? Hoo!  The two were inseparable. Hoo trusted the young girl as much as she trusted him. It was a perfect relationship.

While playing on the princess' carpet in her pretty, owl decor bedroom, Hoo was allowed to fly around.
Almost immediately, the young princess abruptly announced "you better duck your head, Grammy, Hoo is on the loose!" At a moments notice, Hoo could be in the room playing with them or sleeping or sometimes just perched on the curtain rod watching over them. Except on this beautiful sunny August day, Hoo got into mischief! The young princess just so happened to peek out of her bedroom window, only to see Hoo sitting inside her sandbox in the back yard! It frightened her so and she ran out of the house to catch him. Grammy followed, with Autumn and Bella in tow. (Their doll babies)
When they arrived at the sand box, there was no Hoo! They packed our babies up in their stroller and took off on an adventure to find her missing owl.
As they headed out, the princess, not seeming too concerned about Hoo's whereabouts exclaimed to Grammy that she needed her Bird Book. She shared with her Grammy the fact that it wasn't to look for Hoo with, rather to search for new and rare findings. Without holding back, she let out a hoot and a holler! She had spotted a small, grayish colored bird with a small pointy beak. Believing it to be a sandpiper, she began thumbing through the pages rapidly. Passing the perching birds, the swallows, the owls, until she came to the water birds. You would think she would have a cheery composure, but instead shoulders slumped she closed the book hard and tossed it in the stroller. Unfortunately right into Autumns face! The princess felt so sorry for her baby that she scooped her right up into her arms.
Letting her Grammy know that the bird she had seen was not a sandpiper at all! She realized this because the bird in the book had long legs and the one she saw did not!
Moving on from that disappointment, they continued their journey. Still no Hoo.
They came upon a very large rocky spot and began to climb. There were many crevices to step over and dig through for treasures, if the were lucky enough. Suddenly, they heard what sounded like a little owl and lo and behold, it was Hoo! Up above in a lilac bush he sat. They called up to him and off he flew once again. They figured out, by then, that this was a game he was playing with them. Nonchalantly, they carried on with their trip and focused on finding new and interesting items along the way. Among their finds, was a good acorn for whistling, a pretty rock with mica woven through it that made it sparkle and last but so not least was a puzzle piece! It may not sound interesting to some, but to the princess and her Grammy it was the beginning of a fantastic treasure hunt!
